The Executive Director Of the National Identification Registry (NIR) Andrew Peters says his institution is working assiduously to ensure that it is on par with other African Nations in its enrollment of citizens process.
He made the statement on Friday when he me t with some members of the National Legislature who are members of a special committee on Autonomous Agencies of the House of Representatives chaired by Sineoe County Representative Romeo Quiah.
Hon. Peters said his institution has trained staffers and technicians to equip their system to second to non in Africa and are performing excellently,but to do more there must be adequate budgetary support from the government.
Hon peters said it would take forty four Million united state dollars (USD) to enroll the entire citizens of Liberia in the National Identification Biomentry system in the country Free Of Charge, to also do so there must be private partnership introduced
The executive Director of NIR, Andrew Peters has meanwhile clarified that the suspension of all registration of individuals at the NIR is due to a proper adjustment it is implementing to have the Executive order 147 by president Joseph Bokai excuted to the letter.
He said it was surprising to have noticed that several banks including the Eco Bank and GSM companies to have begun to give deadlines for NIR cards to the public to access all services something which is in the preview of authority of the NIR as mandated in the executive order 147 and not those institutions.
Mr. Peters also clarified that there has been no fraudulent act detected in the system as may be speculated or reported in the Investigator News Newspaper on Wednesday June 25 2025.
It has been reported in a related development, that the NIR will next week commence an online registration process which will give easy assess to everyone across the country to register.
In response the chairman of the committee of on Autonomous Agencies at the House of Representatives,Remeo Clarke of Sinoe county praised the NIR for splendid job done and promised to make recommendations for adequate budgetary support for the NIR inorder Liberians to be properly identified as it is being done in other countries
